In North Carolina, restraining orders may be obtained to prevent contact between people. The previous relationship between the parties involved determines which type of restraining order is appropriate.
A 50B order, sometimes just called a restraining order, is issued when the the people involved have had previously dated, been married, lived together, or have a close family relationship.
A civil no-contact order (also known as a 50C order), is a court order that aims to prevent contact or stalking by someone you do not have an intimate or familial relationship with, such as an acquaintance, co-worker, neighbor, or stranger.
